This year’s ninth issue of Shogakukan’s Sho-Comi magazine has announced on Monday that an anime DVD version of Kanan Minami’s Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu shoujo romance manga has been green-lit. The DVD will ship with the ninth volume of the manga this summer. J.C. Staff is producing the animation, and Shigeyasu Yamauichi is directing. The cast and other details have yet to be announced.
The story centers around Tsubaki Hibino, a girl who is indifferent to both romance and fashion, even though she loves giving other people adorable hairstyles. On the first day of high school, she happened to sit next to Kyōta, a mean-spirited boy who teases her. In retaliation, she spontaneously pulls out scissors and cuts off his long tresses of hair. Thus begins the long love-hate relationship between Tsubaki and Kyōta.
The manga has been running in since 2008, and Shogakukan has published 10 million copies of the first eight volumes so far. Radix animated another manga of Minami’s, Honey & Honey Drops, for an original anime DVDproject in 2006.
Nia: I really don’t know what to react since I didn’t like KKWH that much. Hibino gets on my nerves, seriously. But I’ll surely give this OVA a try and also, I’ll give J.C. Staff another chance in my heart. (I loved HnC but I disliked what they did to KWMS)
